Teacher
Responsibilities
Taking turns with the other teacher to lead morning and evening meditations and participate in footsoaking (cleansing of the lower chakras).
Preparing lesson plans which integrate religious topics, primarily in social sciences classes.
Teaching academic subjects including language arts (reading, listening, speaking, writing), mathematics (sorting, patterning, numbers, graphing, measurement and money), science (including life science, physical science and earth science), and social studies (geography, political, social and economic aspects of life).
Teaching music (singing, playing instruments, creating, moving and listening); teaching and leading bhajans (devotional songs), and teaching physical education (safety, health, exercise and games).
Team-teach Sahaj values with other teacher in daily afternoon classes including basic Sahaja Yoga and meditation techniques, songs, and crafts.
Lead and participate in weekend havans (clearing bonfires) and pujas (worship ceremonies).
Requirements
Established practitioner of Sahaj Yoga with a deep understanding of Sahaja practices.
Experience as a teacher at another Sahajaschool, or courses in early childhood education or the Montessori method, or experience working with small groups of children in an educational setting.
Some experience teaching basic reading and math as a teacher, teaching assistant, tutor or home-schooling parent.
Must enjoy working collectively.
The teacher should have a desire to achieve enlightened education and help fulfill Shri Mataji’s vision for Her children.
Job Duties Between Terms
The International Sahaj School has two three month terms per year, from March through June and from September through December. From January through March, teachers are expected to revitalize materials and supplies to make ready for the upcoming school term, focusing on developing new materials or improving existing materials for the Sahaja Yoga Value classes. The teacher also leads efforts to index Sahaj audio, video and book materials, writing synopses for those that can be used for teaching and seeking new and upgraded reference materials from other Sahaja Yoga Schools for use at the Canajorharie school.
Vacation Time Off
School vacation months are July and August and teachers are free to stay on location or travel during vacation months.
